Design and Development of Controlled Release Diclofenac Sodium Capsules
Keywords:
Diclofenac, Pulsincap, diffusion, hydrophilic carriersAbstract
Diclofenac release from modified pulsincap preparations were performed using different proportions of hydrophilic carriers such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone, poly ethylene glycol, poly vinyl alcohol and mannitol. Good linear relationship was observed in between the release rate and the concentration of hydrophilic carriers, relationship was predicted by the Korsemeyer equation (Q=ktn), was considered appropriate to describe accurately the quantity of drug release. The values of n were in between 0.605 to 0.93, indicating that release was controlled by both diffusion and erosion. Among all the carriers tested, polyvinyl alcohol showed better sustaining capacity at 1:1 drug: carrier ratio. This technique is more suitable to prepare the better controlled release formulations of diclofenac sodium.
